Kinston Promise Neighborhood is a GradNation Community

Picture
Kinston Promise Neighborhood has  been recognized as a GradNation Community by America's Promise Alliance. Grad Nation Communities are at the front line of efforts to help young people succeed in school, work and life. They are part of an initiative launched in September 2011 to recognize communities across the nation for their efforts in support of the Grad Nation campaign.

The Grad Nation campaign has two  specific goals: (1)  To increase the national graduation rate to 90 percent by 2020 with no school graduating less than 80; and (2) To regain America's standing as first in the world in college completion.

Young Women of Promise and Kinston Promise Neighborhood have sent delegates to each of the 3 GradNation Summits in Washington, DC that have been held to date.  America's Promise has provided financial support and professional development opportunities for us to increase our efforts to get families and communities more involved in our work with youth.  They are also providing technical support  as we work to build upon our Kinston Promise Neighborhood programs especially the mentoring programs that are designed to encourage all of our youth to set high school graduation and college as their goals.

Young Women of Promise, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded on September 4, 2001.
